As outlined in my previous post Ritz Carlton, San Francisco Review I had gotten few free night certificates to stay at any Ritz hotel, thanks to the Chase Ritz card. After spending 2 nights in San Francisco- I still had one night left. I didn't want to leave town and thankfully Chicago has it's own Ritz. Granted, not as grand as SF one but still a free night at Ritz is a FREE night at Ritz. And certainly, the incredible Chicago downtown view from our suite helped.
The 1909-era Metropolitan Life Insurance Building, 600 Stockton St. in Nob Hill, San Francisco, was turned into a Ritz-Carlton Hotel in 1990. It is an iconic building with a grand front which is imposing. I had a couple of free-night certificates to burn, thanks to Chase Ritz-Carlton card. Otherwise, the cost of a standard night here starts at $600 and up. I made a short 2 night trip to San Francisco specifically to experience the grandeur of this hotel.

I live in Chicago Suburbs for the last 6 years. Chicago is a remarkable city which has tremendous sights and world-class cuisine. But it has that horrible windy winter. Nonetheless, I decided I am going to visit Chicago during last few days of 2017. The wind-chill was hovering around -20F to -30F for the days I was there. So you can imagine my plight in the morning I visited the Bean, at 6 a.m. But I was rewarded with solitude which is almost unheard of around Bean.
Door County is beautiful in Autumn months, or so I have heard. I never got the chance to visit the county in fall. But why not in winter? It is a 3 hour drive from where I live. So when I learned, the weather is going to be great in the weekend in the middle of January- I thought of having short driving trip.
And I could experience the unspeakable swing in my emotions as I was moving from one place to another
