And I could experience the unspeakable swing in my emotions as I was moving from one place to another
New Orleans, or abbreviated as/ affectionately called NOLA- is obviously famous for mardi gras. Tens of thousands of tourists land here every year in February- to have the party of their life. Mardi gras is the most celebrated event in NOLA which is famous for it's costumes, beads, feathers.
Then there is this side of new orleans - music, which can be experienced and enjoyed all through the year, irrespective of your age or taste or knowledge of music. I did. I am not a big music lover, I have a google play music subscription but I won't walk thousand miles. But I would fly to NOLA. :)
Now, French Quarter and Bourbon street are at the center of NOLA and consist of millions of pubs, nightclubs, restaurants and strip clubs. One theme is common amongst them- music. Any place you enter, it's thriving in music and it pulls you in. There is music to drown you in melancholy if you are already sad, there is music to make you ecstatic if you are already feeling good and there is music to cheer you up or make you think what the hell you are doing in life.
I visited new orleans during Christmas 2017, I was living thousand of miles apart from my daughter- whom I missed very much. So I was sad- you see. And I could experience the unspeakable swing in my emotions as I was moving from one place to another. I really hope you would visit this place one day and be equally spellbound as I was. In the meanwhile, I was also trying to capture the variety of music scenes. Few of those from Bourbon Street are below-
But to experience the true Jazz, you have to head over to Frenchmen street- around one mile from French Quarter. It is home to many renowned music clubs like the Maison or my favorite of the entire trip, the Spotted Cat Music Club- very cozy place with jaw-dropping music and ambiance. Most places don't charge cover but expect you would buy a drink or two. The performers are not paid by the clubs and entirely depend on their love of music and your generous tips. Although I generally consider tipping to be an epidemic in USA, please do tip here.
There are plenty more places to go to listen to great music if you have few more nights. For what's going on in frenchmen street, go to http://frenchmenstreetlive.com/ to find the music you love.
