As outlined in my previous post Ritz Carlton, San Francisco Review I had gotten few free night certificates to stay at any Ritz hotel, thanks to the Chase Ritz card. After spending 2 nights in San Francisco- I still had one night left. I didn't want to leave town and thankfully Chicago has it's own Ritz. Granted, not as grand as SF one but still a free night at Ritz is a FREE night at Ritz. And certainly, the incredible Chicago downtown view from our suite helped.
What makes this Ritz a super premium property is it's location. It's right beside Michigan Avenue and the famed Magnificent Mile. It's right at the doorstep of all the famous shopping including the cult Macy's. It 2 minute walk to arguably the most distinct building of Chicago downtown, John Hancock Tower. Many famous and yummy restaurants are within walking distance. It's an easy 5 minute walk to the North Shore trail where you can bike, walk your pets or just walk- for miles. And along the way you can marvel at Chicago downtown. Almost everything feels close-by.
I have Marriott platinum status, by following the steps described here. I enjoyed all the perks that come with this highest elite tier.
So I was able to enjoy the spoils of a Ritz Suite for 30 hours, for FREE.

Here is the link to Marriott's site for this type of suite, if you are interested. The suite is very nicely appointed and has a million dollar view. It has one bedroom, one living area, 2 bathrooms, 2 closets, 2 LCD tvs, nespresso machine, snack and alcohol bar, one work table-chair, one sofa-bed and one long chair. The suite is of generous 600 sqft. size and can accommodate 3 adults.
We had all of our food outside. As there are no dearth of great restaurants just outside and the weather being nice, it didn't make much sense for us to splurge on a $30 burger. But if you want, Ritz has awesome restaurants and bars. The service was very good and everybody greeted me by my name, including the house-keeping stuff. I asked for 2 water bottles, 6 were delivered. They were always trying to go above and beyond and it showed.
Overall it was a very positive and relaxing experience. I will love to be back to this hotel, someday. Just need to find another free night certificate. I ain't paying $800/night. But it is worth every penny who can afford it in cash.
