Door County is beautiful in Autumn months, or so I have heard. I never got the chance to visit the county in fall. But why not in winter? It is a 3 hour drive from where I live. So when I learned, the weather is going to be great in the weekend in the middle of January- I thought of having short driving trip.
I am writing this at the end of an exhausting and rewarding first day (2nd night) at door county. I return tomorrow. I got up at 5 in the morning, had a very light breakfast. Packed the following in the backpack-
The first park that I wanted to visit is Cave Point County Park after looking into all the pictures I saw in web. And boy, it didn't disappoint. Above pictures and the below ones are from Cave Point. Winter has created stunning ice structures which with the Michigan Lake in the in the backdrop creates jaw-dropping scenery. I am so glad I visited this place. I got a good exercise as a bonus. The park had very well-marked trail and a good amount of woods.
After that I visited Whitefish Dunes State Park which is connected to the cave point through the walking trail. It has a lovely beach which I am sure in summer would be bustling with people. But the floating ice scraps in the water and the crashing waves really is something.
It was 11'o clock and I was starving, I did my usual thing and searched Yelp to find nearest breakfast options and boy-o-boy, did I find a gem. It was such a quaint and charming place- I hadn't been to a such a place before. The price was right and food was delicious. I am sure savvy Instagram users can make the pictures sassy. The place is 5th and Jefferson Coffee House in Sturgeon Bay.
And I leave you with this picture from Peninsula State Park. Please note that you would need to buy a car sticker to enter Wisconsin State Parks, it's wise to buy a yearly sticker ($28 for Wisconsin residents and $38 for out-of-state)- if you plan to visit the hiking trails or the camping grounds multiple times in a year. It's worth it,
